Where Victorian heritage
meets contemporary design
Builder: Art Built.
Photography: Sotherby’s International Realty.
Located in the heart of cosmopolitan Surry Hills, this residence is a confident fusion of Victorian heritage and contemporary design.
The classic terrace has been thoughtfully renovated for modern living, honouring its original architecture while delivering a home that feels timeless, considered and effortlessly liveable. From elegant formal spaces to seamless indoor–outdoor connections, every detail reflects refined curation and architectural clarity.
Central to the renovation is a strong focus on materiality and place-making. While the interiors balance light, texture and restraint, the exterior makes a bold architectural statement through the use of Yakisugi timber cladding. This traditional Japanese charred timber technique brings depth and character to the façade, while naturally enhancing durability, moisture resistance and longevity.
The dramatic blackened timber provides a sculptural counterpoint to the leafy Surry Hills streetscape, anchoring the home within its urban context while elevating its presence.
